Religious Jewish Community of Moldova
The history of Jews on the territory of today's Moldova is more than 2000 years old.
It is believed that the Jews first appeared here at the turn of the new era. There is information that at the end of the 1st century King Decebal granted the Jews of Talmus special privileges, and that they also lived in other cities of Dacia. In the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, Jews also came here with the Roman legions during the Roman-Dacian wars.
There are always people discovering the Jewish roots of their families, who have a desire to learn about Jewish history and tradition. Jewish life in Moldova, even after 2000 years of complex, tragic and ambiguous history, continues to exist and develop. And the activity of our religious-cultural community Agudath Israel is a living and vivid example of this.
